Camponotus lasiselene – The Pearl of Tropical Terrariums

Mature colony (Queen swarming 2024 + 100 to 150 workers + abundant brood).

🐜 The ideal species for the natural biotope

The Camponotus lasiselene , native to the rainforests of northern Thailand, is a small marvel of discretion and elegance. Calm and non-aggressive, it is the ideal species for those wishing to try their hand at a planted terrarium (vivarium). It blends perfectly into a natural setting without disrupting it, offering a soothing spectacle to observe.

My opinion: If you like spectacular physogastrias, you're in for a treat! In Lasiselene, the majors store so much food that their abdomens become translucent and massive, rivaling the size of the queen. They are a very rewarding species to feed. My advice: keep them in an environment rich in moss and rot-resistant wood to maintain the high humidity they love.

📋 Maintenance sheet (The strength of the collective)

  • Difficulty: Intermediate (requires stable humidity).
  • Temperament: Calm, shy and very organized.
  • Key point: Excellent candidate for cohabitation in a natural terrarium.
  • Humidity: High ( 70-80% ). They need a constant tropical atmosphere.

🛠️ Detailed breeding parameters

  • Size: Queen (8-9 mm) | Minors (2-3 mm) | Majors (Up to 7 mm).
  • Temperature: 22°C to 26°C . It appreciates a gentle heat, simulating the tropical undergrowth.
  • Diet: Fond of sugary liquids and small, soft insects. Their social storage is one of the most efficient of the genus Camponotus.
  • Winter rest: Very light. A simple drop to 18-20°C for 2 months is enough to respect their natural cycle.

📦 Why choose this colony from Fourmitures?

  • "Turnkey" Colony: With more than 100 workers, you receive a structured society, capable of managing its own environment and adapting immediately to a new nest.
