Camponotus ligniperda – The Giant of European Forests
Robust foundation (Queen swarming 2024 + 24 to 28 workers + brood).
🐜 The colossus of our mountains
Camponotus ligniperda is not just an ant; it's the largest species in Europe. With its massive queen and workers with dark red thoraxes, it commands respect. It's a powerful species with confident movements, sure to delight beekeepers looking to observe an impressive social structure without needing complex macrophotography equipment.
My opinion: The Ligniperda is a gentle giant. Its development mirrors the mountain seasons: it doesn't rush anything, but each stage is fascinating. My vital advice: beware of heat waves! This species thrives in cool conditions. In summer, keep it in the coolest room of the house. If you respect its need for winter rest, it will reward you with absolutely gigantic major workers.
